Wrestler Richie Frieman Talks About Writing Children's Books

Author Richie Frieman joins BookGoodies host Deborah Carney to discuss writing, publishing and all things book related.

Bio From Amazon Profile:
A Modern Day Renaissance Man, Richie Frieman has had a career spanning everything from professional artist, to columnist, to journalist, entrepreneur, inventor and even professional wrestler. With the release of Terple, Frieman is quickly becoming one of the most poetic and talented voices in children’s literature today. “Terple – Always Dream Bigger” (Trust Your Cape Publishing) is the follow up to Frieman’s 2008 release, “Terple – The Sky Is Just The Start”.

“Terple – Always Dream Bigger” is a winner of The 2012 Gelett Burgess Children’s Book Award for Best Poetry and Rhyme book, as well has been awarded the Literary Classics Seal of Approval. An avid philanthropist, Frieman uses Terple to give back to those in need by offering a portion of his profits from his book sales (for the life of it) to a different charity every month.

Believing that every great idea starts with a pen, paper and a vision, Frieman launched his award winning internet magazine The Pen’s Eye View (www.PensEyeView.com) on April 1, 2007. To date, PensEyeView.com has featured over 1,000 consecutive interviews with a different artist, musician, and visionary from all over the globe – a different one every 48 hours – from emerging artists to Grammy winners.

Frieman was awarded a Laureate medal at the 2008 Computerworld Honors Program (formerly known as the Smithsonian Award). He is the youngest recipient of this award and PensEyeView.com is the smallest company to ever have this honor bestowed on them.

Frieman is also known as The Modern Manners Guy for QuickAndDirtyTips.com (Macmillan Publishing) – a humorous weekly column and podcast about manners and etiquette. Inventing and entrepreneurship has also been one of Frieman’s passions, having launched his revolutionary fashion accessory called Collar Keeps which helps eliminate the fly away collar on dress shirts. He is also the Co-Founder of Charm City Babies, a vintage rock n’ roll, pop culture inspired baby clothing line.

Along with Frieman’s work in the arts, he has been known as the professional wrestler, “The Thrill From Israel” Buster Maccabi since 2000, having won more than a dozen titles in various federations throughout the country. Please visit www.RichieFrieman.com and on Twitter @RichieFrieman

For me, my book had generate with what I am passionate, what I teach and what I do as a dream mantra. I picked Tao as theme of my life because Tao translates the organic ways of “Life Path”

Creation is our souls path as writing draws forth our experiences and expressions to say what we get to say unstoppably and contently.

Yet, it is still deeper than that of Tao. My secret to having creative depth and imagination is “Meditation”. From meditation as the primary medium, I write to refine my visions with thoughts.

frontcvrAbout your Book:
Tao Art of Flow book dives into a soul felt journey. It mixes fiction and non-fiction into different chapters using meditation memoirs, spiritual and cultural travels and people into my quest that packages into one solid descriptive package. The book breaks down into unique consecutive parts:

Author Bio:
We all have a story, yet we are more than any story that defines us.

For example, I am a certified Transformational Leader (CTL), certified Reiki Master (CRM), seasoned Tai Chi and Qi-gong instructor and registered Sidha®. As a teacher of energy medicine and a mastery of Energy Mind/Body flow, I utilize these 30 years of personal experience in bio-energetic healing stemming from living Tao principles.

I could tell you that my classes and workshops on the Living Tao, Tai Chi, Qigong, meditation, communication, and Reiki healing, have been attended by many famous people – including actors, producers, writers, doctors, politicians and some of the leading health practitioners in the country.

Or I could tell you that I am known by many as a Zen architect, and by others due to the national exposure I received through radio, television, and print publications as a creator of meditative music, and other healing creative arts. As a visionary to creativity, so is my mission to influencing the world with fresh insights.

But, if you were to ask me how I might define myself right now in this moment, I would tell you that I am an “Explorer” who has set sail on a lifelong journey to access ancient wisdom. And I would tell you that my passion is to act as a “Guide to the Inner Worlds” for others who wish to explore their own inner territory.

There is an entire world within, right at the tip of your consciousness that is just waiting to gift you its treasures. Life can be much more fulfilling and exciting than most people are led to believe. Just as my gifts have been revealed to me, your gifts will be revealed to you, and to the world, when you awaken to who you truly are.

To deepen your personal exploration, I offer you in igniting your Soul by accessing this vast energy pool and resurrect the magic of your being.

How did you decide how to publish your book and where is it published through:
I choose Outskirts Press. I looked at complete self publishing package to streamline my time and allow delegation to take place for those who do what they do best.

Interview with Memoir Author Stacey Thureen

Author Stacey Thureen joins BookGoodies host Deborah Carney to discuss her upcoming memoir. Lots of great information shared about her journey and the process of writing the book.

What inspired you to write your memoir?
In 2011 I was given the opportunity to share publicly about my thyroid journey from diagnosis, to treatment, to acceptance of the condition I now have.

The reason why I’ve decided to write a memoir is because while going through this health scare, my husband and I watched as five family members died within a seventeen month period. And we also went through significant job changes due to the down economy. There was a lot of life lessons learned during this season that I believe many people will be able to relate to, and learn from, as they read this book.

About your Book:
There are seasons in life that are long, painful and really shake us to the very core of our human existence. By the end of that season of hardship, we emerge from the abyss being better off for it. And we see that without that trial we really do not get to experience what it means to truly live.

Five times in seventeen months death came knocking at the door. For this one young woman it included having to do the unthinkable; she buried her grandfather on her own. Grief and loss were common themes throughout this winter faith season. Then an inch size growth was detected on her thyroid. Three days after her thyroid surgery, another family member died.

This is a timely memoir about how severe pain and loss helped one woman come full circle with her childhood, find her purpose, and prepare her to raise up the next generation.

Author Bio:
Stacey Thureen currently works on a variety of communications and media projects for small businesses, non-profits, print media, and production. Previously, she worked in commercial television news and as a communications director for a Boston area non-profit.

While working in news, Stacey was part of a news team that won an Upper Midwest Regional Emmy award for the I-35W Bridge Collapse coverage. She was also part of the same news team that won a National Headliner award, two years in a row, for breaking news coverage.

While working in the non-profit sector, Stacey implemented promotions and public relations strategies that garnered news coverage including the front page of The Boston Sunday Globe.

Growing up in New Jersey, Stacey swam competitively for eleven years. In addition to state and national accolades, she swam collegiately for The University of Iowa Hawkeyes. Stacey graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, double majoring in English and Communication Studies.

Whether it is writing, producing, or public speaking Stacey enjoys working on projects that teach, inspire, and give perspective and a sense of purpose to others.

In 2011 Stacey did just that when she was given the opportunity to share publicly about her thyroid journey. At the time of her diagnosis, she was freelance producing for a quarterly health and lifestyle television show in Boston. Several tests indicated that there was an inch size growth on the left side of her thyroid, and it needed to be removed. She pitched to the production team that she was willing to have her surgery filmed and do a segment on thyroid health. September of 2011 the TV segment aired on “Better Living with Liz Walker” and it publicly portrayed the diagnosis, treatment, and acceptance of the thyroid autoimmune condition Stacey now has.

Since then, Stacey continues to be an active voice in raising thyroid awareness. She was featured in the January 2012 edition of Empower Magazine “I Get By with a Little Support from My Friends,” and was a live guest on the Boston-based Jordan Rich Radio show. She regularly blogs about her personal experience, writes about thyroid health for Examiner.com, and is a contributing writer for the soon-to-go-live AutoimmuneMom.com. In June 2012, one year after her thyroid surgery, Stacey’s story “A New Voice” was featured on the I am Second website.

Sonia Pressman Fuentes Interview About Feminism and Her Memoir

Author Sonia Pressman Fuentes/a> joins BookGoodies hosts Deborah Carney and Karen Garcia to discuss writing, publishing and a lot of history.

What inspired you to write your memoir?
Several things inspired me to write my memoir. First, I was born in Berlin, Germany, of Polish Jewish parents, fled the Nazi regime with my parents, and came to the US, where I became a founder of the second wave of the women’s movement.  Second, I played a historic role at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in interpreting the provisions of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which, among other things, prohibited employment discrimination based on sex. Third, I was a founder of NOW (National Organization for Women). And, finally, my parents were born in Piltz, a village in Poland, and lived a lifestyle that was gone and I wanted to preserve the record of their lives and mine.

Eat First—You Don’t Know What They’ll Give You, The Adventures of an Immigrant Family and Their Feminist Daughter
Tell us about your book:
It is the story, told with humor, of my parents’ lives and my own.  The book begins with my parents’ marriage in Piltz, the village in Poland where they were both born, and goes on to their lives and my own in Germany, Belgium, and the US.  The book discusses my becoming a lawyer in 1957, when 3% of the law school graduates in this country were women, my career and marriage, and my becoming a founder of NOW.  It ends with my returning to Germany in 1978 as an “American specialist” on the women’s rights movement in the US for the then-US Information Agency.

Author of Short Scripts Genevieve Sipperley Interview with @BookGoodies

Author Genevieve Sipperley joins BookGoodies podcast host Deborah Carney to talk about books, writing and current projects.

From Genna:
I was born and raised in Alaska. My town, called North Pole, was pretty small and I spent many nights writing away in my room as I watched snow fall outside my window. When I was younger, I started off writing mostly poetry and short stories. I was first nationally published when I was 16 and my first volume of poetry was published when I was 18. I had some minor success as a poet and short story writer, but after I graduated high school and left home for Chicago, I went to film school and that is when I knew I wanted to make the transition to screenwriting. During film school I studied Motion Picture and Television Screenwriting and I’ve been writing screenplay and scripts full-time ever since. I’ve sold a handful of short scripts and currently have a feature script being optioned.

“Lights, Camera – Wait, What?” is more than just a book of short scripts. There are notes on filmmaking that are ideal for new or independent filmmakers, as well as a quick guide on how to read a script. This book is filled with screenplays to film, scripts to read as short stories, or notes to use as a guide when writing or filming a script. Enjoy all of the different genres, characters, and ideas in this book of collected original short screenplays.

Maryann Reid Author and Entrepreneur Interview with @BookGoodies

Author Maryann Reid joins BookGoodies podcast host Deborah Carney to talk about books, writing and current projects.

Award-winning author (St. Martins Press) and entrepreneur Maryann Reid has been featured by countless media outlets including USA Today, Essence, Glamour, The CBS Early Show, and The Wendy Williams Experience.

Maryann’s first book Sex and the Single Sister: 5 Novellas was published by St. Martins Press when she was just 25 years old. At that time, Maryann had no idea that a few stories she wrote in her journal would become characters and later become a book. But she quickly learned the power of the media and pop culture influence on publishers and their decision-making. Because of the popularity of HBO’s Sex and The City, she hit the zeitgeist she sold her first book without it being finished. She signed her first book deal with St. Martins and the strong support of a stellar agent.
