Jennifer Fromke Author Interview with @BookGoodies

Author Jennifer Fromke joins BookGoodies podcast host Deborah Carney to talk about books, writing and current projects.

Jennifer Fromke was born and raised in Michigan, attended Wheaton College in IL, and lived her first married years in Minneapolis, MN. She writes from North Carolina these days where she pines away for cooler temps amidst a sea of people drinking sweet tea. Her biggest fans are her husband of 20 years and her three children, who keep her life filled with brilliant colors and big dreams. They eagerly await their annual trip to northern Michigan and time together on their favorite lake.

From Jennifer:
My debut novel is entitled “A Familiar Shore.” The manuscript won the 2010 Genesis Award for Women’s Fiction given by American Christian Fiction Writers group. The back cover copy reads: Meg Marks is a young lawyer raised off the coast of the Carolinas. An anonymous client hires her to arrange his will, and sends her to meet his estranged family at their lake home in northern Michigan. After a shocking discovery, she finds herself caught between his suspicious family and a deathbed promise her conscience demands that she keep. Will she sacrifice her own dreams for revenge, or will she choose something more?

The largest portion of the book takes place in northern Michigan on Lake Charlevoix, but there are scenes at the coast of North Carolina, Charlotte, NC, Savannah, GA, at sea on the ocean and Key West, FL.

This novel was published traditionally through a smaller publisher and is available in print and digital formats.

I also self-pubbed a Christmas short story which is available in digital format only.

I’m currently at work on another novel which leans even more toward women’s fiction and I’m fighting back emerging ideas for further projects so I can finish this next one asap!

Author Rob Riley Talks to @BookGoodies About Writing

Author Rob Riley joins BookGoodies host Deborah Carney to talk about his book, how he choose a publisher, his writing style and tips for writers.

Author Bio:
I live with my wife, Mary Lynne, in southeastern Wisconsin. I spent thirty-two years as a Milwaukee police officer: Seven years doing undercover narcotics investigations and twenty-two years as a major crimes detective. Writing and reading have been lifelong passions; I began by writing short stories more than thirty years ago. Of course, police work provided both the insight and inspiration for my PI mystery novel, Portrait Of Murder. Two additional novels that feature my main character, Private Investigator Jack Blanchard, have been completed.

Shel Horowitz – Green Author Interview with @BookGoodies

Author Shel Horowitz joins BookGoodies podcast host Deborah Carney to talk about books, writing and current projects.

“I make the world insist on knowing why you’re special, and I help the world see the value in your values.”

My primary niche is green marketing: braiding together the commonalities between professional communication and personal activism. I’ve been in both the marketing and environmental worlds since the 1970s, and for the last dozen years, have worked to combine them more systematically (though I actually had a few green clients all the way back to the early days).

Ben Coleman Origami Bonsai Author Interview with @BookGoodies

Author Ben Coleman joins BookGoodies podcast host Deborah Carney to talk about books, writing and current projects.

I’m a former high school math teacher and computer entrepreneur – turned artist, author and inventor! My education was highly technical; engineering, mathematics, and economics. When people began referring to me as an “artist” I felt confused and a little embarrassed. I had never considered the matter.

Over time I have come to understand that I am an artist; in fact everyone is an artist. Each person combines their unique perspective, a lifetime of seeing, touching, feeling and experiencing, into their work. My goal is to unleash the artist in you. I consider myself no more than a facilitator. My techniques are designed to be simple, yet they have infinite possibilities.

Perhaps you will express your artistic side, just like I do, with a discrete emphasis on the technical, or maybe you will discover an aspect of this art form I have not yet explored. Whichever path you choose, I hope you will enjoy following it, and my books are here to help you along the way.

Origami Bonsai is my first book and one of three books in a series for creating botanical sculptures made from paper.

Origami 101 is a book that takes several new approaches to teaching origami. My hope is that this book will make origami accessible to the scores of people that previously considered it too complex.

You can see many more pictures of Origami Bonsai sculptures made by people from all over the world, as well as a free magazine devoted to Origami Bonsai, and folding videos and lots more at http://www.OrigamiBonsai.org

Interview with Travel Memoir Author Jill Dobbe

Author Jill Dobbe joins BookGoodies host Deborah Carney to talk about writing her fascinating travel memoir.

Here-We-Are-exterior-ver1JPG
Who says you can’t travel with kids? Dan and I find out we can do just that as we set off with our two very young kids, first to live and work on an island far out in the Pacific, then on to the continent of Africa with a few stops in between. Armed with strollers, diapers, and too much luggage, we travel to over twenty-five countries throughout a ten year span, while working together as international overseas educators.

After surviving typhoon Yuri, almost being mauled by lions, and, nearly being shot by a presidential guard, we happily endure all of the good times and bad, while living life to the fullest. A decade’s worth of experiences and lifelong memories remain with us, as we return to the U.S., now with two teenagers in tow, and begin to experience our very own version of reverse culture shock.

Author Bio:
Since writing HERE WE ARE & THERE WE GO, her first memoir about her travels, Jill has lived in Cairo, Egypt; Gurgaon, India; and Tegucigalpa, Honduras, where she now resides with her husband, Dan. Jill continues to work as an elementary administrator and writes on the side. She and Dan have weekly chats with their kids, who now as adults, can’t seem to stop traveling either. Her daughter graduates college soon and will travel to Honduras to teach. Her son is currently away at his first year of medical school. Every June, they travel from their separate locations and meet up together again, at their home on a lake in Wisconsin.

Paul Reinig Author – Former "Moonie" Interview

Author Paul Reinig joins BookGoodies podcast hosts Deborah Carney and Karen Garcia to talk about his book based on his experience in being a follower of Reverend Sun Myung Moon. In an honest and revealing interview where he talks about his book A Grand And Glorious Adventure: The Saboteur Years.

Lacking self-worth, a few years after high school I joined a religious cult where I spent the next 23 years loathing myself (to say the least). Everything was about completely denying myself in order to focus on “saving the world.” Often my heart was screaming for personal love and attention but I couldn’t listen because of religious dogma. I lived to fulfill my mission (and suffered tremendously in the process). Eventually however, I could no longer continue living that way. In 1998 I finally found the courage to walk away from that lifestyle (and a 16-year arranged marriage).

During the last 14 years I went through tons of healing modalities attempting to deal with a variety of emotions that were (and always had been) wreaking havoc in my life, but with little lasting success. It was only when I realized that no one else can possibly “heal” me that everything changed. I began treating myself with honor, acceptance, respect, and most especially, love and compassion, and discovered that emotions, when they are accepted and feel safe, come into balance.

M.J. Rose Author and eBook Pioneer Talks with @BookGoodies

Author M.J. Rose joins BookGoodies podcast hosts Deborah Carney and Karen Garcia to talk about books, writing and current projects.

She is a founding member and board member of International Thriller Writers and the founder of the first marketing company for authors: AuthorBuzz.com. She runs two popular blogs; Buzz, Balls & Hype and Backstory.

Getting published has been an adventure for Rose who self-published Lip Service late in 1998 after several traditional publishers turned it down. Editors had loved it, but didn’t know how to position it or market it since it didn’t fit into any one genre.

Frustrated, but curious and convinced that there was a readership for her work, she set up a web site where readers could download her book for $9.95 and began to seriously market the novel on the Internet.

After selling over 2500 copies (in both electronic and trade paper format) Lip Service became the first e-book and the first self-published novel chosen by the LiteraryGuild/Doubleday Book Club as well as being the first e-book to go on to be published by a mainstream New York publishing house.

Rose has been profiled in Time magazine, Forbes, The New York Times, Business 2.0, Working Woman, Newsweek and New York Magazine.

Rose has appeared on The Today Show, Fox News, The Jim Lehrer NewsHour, and features on her have appeared in dozens of magazines and newspapers in the U.S. and abroad, including USAToday, Stern, L’Official, Poets and Writers and Publishers Weekly.

Rose graduated from Syracuse University and spent the ’80s in advertising. She was the Creative Director of Rosenfeld Sirowitz and Lawson and she has a commercial in the Museum of Modern Art in NYC.

She lives in Connecticut with Doug Scofield, a composer, and their very spoiled dog, Winka.
